Please post here any free agent you're placing a Franchise Tag on to retain at $15M per year. You may Franchise Tag a player for an additional 1 to 5 years. When doing so please specify the number of years you're keeping that player.
You may trade a player after using your Franchise Tag on him. Our league rules do not allow you to trade a free agent and have the new team place a Franchise Tag on that player.

Doesn't hosmer have 1 more year of Arb?

You're right. When I acquired him, his contract just showed one year of control, but it should have been 16: $8.25m 17: $9.25m. Please let me know if I can adjust the contract to correctly reflect team control.

Actually he had signed a 2 year extension on 2/18/15 at the following to avoid arbitration:
15: $5.65m 16: $8.25m
So his contract listing was correct. The franchise tag offer can stand.

Yes, he did, but that only took out the first two years of arbitration. Since the team control continues, why wouldn't that be reflected as all of the rest of the arg eligible players in the league are?

When the league started he was under team control through 2017. That changes for what reason?

Hosmer was listed on Oakland Nationals 2016 roster as 16:$8.25M all season, with all of us assuming he'd hit free agency in 2017. Wasn't that confirmed by me and Brent before last season started when we looked at Cot's and got the master spreadsheet done? He was also listed as only 16:$8.25M on that master spreadsheet too. At this point we can not go back and add years to this contract, even if for some reason he's still under team control and we all missed that last year. He was one of KC's original keepers and was then traded with that one year 2016 contract.
Franchise tag for next 4 years is valid.

I think this is a bad idea. It sets precedent for accepting future errors in contracts. This sends the message whatever people originally posted will stand, even if it's wrong. Shouldn't we get it right and adjust it to the correct contract?

It shouldn't be too much of a precedent problem as the only time we use cot's is at the league inception (or technically also in the extremely unusual, and to my knowledge so far untested, case that an RFA-tagged player gets no bids and then the tag-holding team elects to keep them). In all other cases the winning bid for a free agent is logged clearly on proboards as the official entry.
This isn't to say I have a strong view in this case. My inclination is to echo Scott and to let it go through however, as Brendon traded for Hosmer last Feb believing this was the contract and he may have even been planning to have him as his 2017 FT. The original error wasn't his fault, and we (me included) should have spotted it before. Seems a little late to correct it now, and it's not his fault, and it doesn't seem like the error is giving any major advantage...

What happens when another error is caught down the road? For example: Say Miguel Sano ends up having one less year of team control than you posted? And in oh, 2020, when Sano is supposed to be a FA and everyone is excited to bid on him....he stays on Henry's team because Henry made a mistake a posted his contract thru 2021? What then? IMO All contracts that have errors should be fixed no matter at which point they are discovered, whether it benefits the owner or not

What if Brendan prefers to have him on his correct contract? He could have him for $13M this season an additional 5 years after, 6 total. As opposed to 5 years

Hmm, this is true... I agree with you that the correct salary should be the default. Especially if it gives Sano an extra year! But not if it takes one away of course (side note: of course the protected arb will change on cot's so in case of dispute we would have to use the way back machine on archive.org to show what the website said when the league was set up) I guess the tricky thing here is that the player was traded so Brendan was under the impression that was the contract when the trade was approved. I'm personally cool with him choosing what he prefers in this case (agreed it might be better on the original contract in cost terms, but he does have other players he might want to FT next year so I would understand him preferring the version he traded for). But where a player hasn't been traded 100% agree to change the contract to the correct terms with no exceptions.

I would rather keep him on the contract that should have been signed originally, which would put him at $9.25m for 2017. I will accept the league's call either way.

Please get me up to speed. What's the deal here? Original contract was posted only through 2016 but he should have had one more year 2017 as Arb which would be $1M more?
Ryan might not have traded him if he knew there was another year on the contract.

That's correct on the contract. That's correct, the past moves for all might not have been exactly the same if the contract had been correctly recorded, but it was not. The question is to whether to allow it to be corrected now that we have discovered the error. I think the argument for changing the contract has been stated well in this thread by Tripp.

Draft is starting tonight. Have way too much to do.
Final answer. Eric Hosmer KC 17:$9.25M.
FA after 2017. That work for everyone? No Franchise Tag on Hosmer.
