Cub Sox send: Trayce Thompson OF LAD 16:$0, 17-20:$0.5M (Rookie prospect contract) Brett Anderson P LAD 16:$0.5M, 17:$1M
Boston sends: Justus Sheffield P NYY - prospect 2017 10th round Minors pick 7th round Minors pick
We near this weekend's trade deadline and Tripp finally gets Thompson who he's been asking me about all year. I didn't want to give up a 4th OF who has easy 20 HR and 10+ SB potential, but my farm has been depleted of my top prospects in several trades. Being able to snag a potential future ace is a risk but I like this gamble.
Sheffield has great stuff and I just hope the Yankees put him on a program to be successful over the next 2-3 years. Anderson was a late throw-in that Tripp asked for and he moved a late round pick back to me which may or may not get used in January depending how many open Minors spots I have.
Always enjoy trade talk with Mr. Boston Padres. Win-win for both in our eyes.

I was glad to be able to work out a last minute deal for the toolsy Thompson. We've tried different variations of a Thompson deal over the past few months, as Scott mentioned. This really boils down to being centered around two highly talented and exciting players, who each come with a glaring concern.
Trayce K's too much and Sheffields command isn't where it needs to be. I'm hoping both players figure it out and become the all stars they have the potential to be. Was appreciative Scott agreed to include Anderson, as I can use him as insurance next season, while I wait for all the kids in my farm to arrive. Pleasure as always talking baseball with the commish.

Due to an error on the part of the Boston Padre organization, the 10th Rd Pick previously being sent to Chicago shall now be replaced with a 7th Rd Pick. Boston had already sent the 8th, 9th and 10th Rd. picks to Pittsburgh in the Shoemaker deal.
