Should a team receive compensation if they do not re-sign their own Restricted Free Agent? This is again another item that has been discussed in several ways over the last couple years.
Scott and myself have implemented the following as a rule in DD5, and we are proposing that we do the same here in DD4:
OWNER COMPENSATION FOR RESTRICTED FREE AGENT SIGNING
If an owner's RFA is signed by another team, he will receive a compensatory minors draft pick in the following season's minor league draft.
AAS = 18.01M+, then MINIMUM 5 yr deal – owner gets an additional first round pick at end of First Round.
AAS = $14.01M to $18M, then MINIMUM 4 yr deal – owner gets an additional second round pick at end of Second Round.
AAS = $10.01M to $14M, then MINIMUM 3 yr deal – owner gets an additional third round pick at end of Third Round.
AAS = $6.01M to $10M, then MINIMUM 2, MAXIMUM 4 yr deal – owner gets an additional fourth round pick at end of Fourth Round.
AAS = up to $6M, then MINIMUM 1, MAXIMUM 3 yr deal – owner gets an additional fifth round pick at end of Fifth Round.
If compensatory picks are awarded to multiple owners for a same round, order will be determined by following season's final standings.

I think that if we go with this, it should only apply to big ticket RFAs. Don’t think you should just be able to tag mediocre players, not bid for them and be given super valuable draft picks. Think should only apply when a player signs with another team for >30M (total contract value). Or take 100 divided by the total contract value, round that number up, to be the round you get an extra pick in.
100+m contract - 1st round (or could not do this and instead cap at second round) 50-100m contract - 2nd round 33-50m 3rd round 25-30m 4th round 20-25m 5th round 17-20m 6th round 15-17m 7th round 13-15m 8th round 12-13m 9th round 11-12m 10th round 10-11m 11th round <10m 12th round
i do think before choosing to do something like this someone should check the last few years to see how many picks would have been doled out. Not forgetting that a lot more people would have chosen not to match the winning bid because of the prospect of a draft pick of course!

Very good point Henry. For example: Godley for $50M last season shouldn't get the former owner a first round comp.

With the new franchise tag rule Godley wouldn't have got 50m?

Maybe make it applicable to players on original contracts and not in-season FA, similar to MLB.
