Tor sends:
Jonathan Gray - SP (COL) - '17: $0.5M, '18: $0.5M, '19: $1M, '20: $2M, '21: $3M
Pitt sends:
Kelvin Herrera (KC) 17: 3.55M / 18: 4.55M Josh Hader (MIL) Prospect- has never been a part of the 40 man roster.
I wanted to acquire a young controlled SP for the 18 season and beyond and Gray fits the bill. I am still a believer in Hader and think MIL will let him start later this year or next year after they fall from contention. As with any prospect he does carry risk, but reward. Herrera helps off-set the risk and despite being a little down this year still has many solid years at age 27 and is under control in 18 for a reasonable sum. I expect he resumes his high k/9 and remains a back end of the bullpe asset for the foreseeable future.

Well I definitely didn't plan on trading Gray however Colorado is not the greatest home for SP. Adding Porcello earlier helps me make this move here. I get a solid closer that I greatly needed and Hader back to the Brew Crew. Hader has some nasty stuff just needs the timeand I think he can be Gray 2.0 but in a better ball park. Agreed. As always good talks with Pitt.
