Hey guys,
The mini Minors draft went well. We'll have a full 12 round Minors draft next year. You can pick in as many rounds as you have spots open at that time. Next year we also will have Parent Franchise Protection which is the opportunity to keep any unowned minor leaguer from each of your two franchises which we do immediately following the 1st two rounds of the Minors draft.
Now we need to look at moving on to the next phase which is our Initial Free Agency period. Players that were not initial keepers and who show as Free Agents in the Fantrax player database are eligible to be offered Diamond Duos III contracts. There are a lot of nuances and details that I need to make sure everyone understands before we dive into it. Every team MUST come out of free agency with AT LEAST 37 players, giving teams the option to promote a few minor leaguers for $0 to fill 40-man roster spots if they want.
Please take a second to vote in the poll as to which date you prefer to begin. This phase will likely go on for at least a couple weeks, probably longer. Trading is CLOSED during this period and will open up again after all owners are finished and have at least 37 major league spots filled. Few things everyone needs to understand:
1) Each owner must have 2 players nominated and on the board to begin, AND throughout Free Agency each owner must have 2 players nominated on the board BEFORE offering a contract to any other player.
2) You may NOT exceed your $170M team salary cap at any time or contract offers will be deemed illegal and voided. If this happens then the previous contract offer becomes the high bid and this could cause problems because that previous bid's owner may have already moved on to another player.
3) Each owner must ALWAYS assume you're going to win your current offer and allocate those dollars to your overall team's total salary (for 2016 anyway) so as not to exceed the $170M at anytime. Once another offer comes in on a player then you are allowed to remove those allocated dollars from your 2016 salary.
4) Once an offer sits for 12 hours with no raise, then and only then will the player be "sold" and sign with that team. At that time the team who NOMINATED the sold player needs to nominate another player before bidding on anyone else. It is NOT the team who wins a player that gets to nominate someone new. Again, each team cannot have more than 2 players nominated on the board at anytime, but should not have less than 2 players on the board unless that team already has 36 or more players on 40-man roster already.
Please make comments below if you have any questions. I NEED to make sure that all owners are on board with this process and understand how it all works. Looking forward to it!!
